eumelia: (little dream - observing)
A few days ago I posted this:

Pick a character I've written and I will explain the top five ideas/concepts/etc I keep in mind while writing that character that I believe are essential to accurately depicting them.

I got some requests :) All of which are detailed under their respective cuts. If you want more, don't hesitate to ask!

Magneto )

Steve McGarrett )

Grace Williams )

Danny Williams )

Kono Kalakaua )

I had a very hard time picking out only five things for each character, as they each contain multitudes, and I have so much more to say about each of them.

Title: My Body Is a Cage

Author: [personal profile] eumelia

Pairing/Characters: Steve/Danny

Rating: NC-17

Spoilers: This is set just before episode 2.09 and is a sequel to [livejournal.com profile] verasteine’s fic The Only Easy Day.

Word Count 5,264

Warnings: Daddy kink and mentions of dubious consent.

Disclaimer: This is a work of transformative fiction, created for fun and pleasure. No copyright infringement is intended.

Author's Notes: This fic is a present to fandom as part of [community profile] fannish_advent. Happy Hanukkah, y’all!

Per usual I could not have done this without my beloved betas, [personal profile] perspi and [livejournal.com profile] verasteine.

And extra special thank you to Vera who agreed to me writing a sequel for her fic, which you should read (it is linked above) and held my hand all along the rather long and exhausting process of writing and editing this fic.

Thank you, bb.

The title is from the song “My Body Is a Cage” by Arcade Fire, which is stupendously covered by Peter Gabriel, which is the version I listened to on loop as I wrote.

Summary: Steve is blind to the power of his own yielding.

I wrote a whole thing on the way to work and my tablet, Officer Kalakua, ate almost all of it! I was very frustrated as you can imagine.

It really is the little things!

I woke up to veritable cornucopia of icons made by [personal profile] st_aurafina and [livejournal.com profile] tailoredshirt made just for me!

I ended up choosing the one you see right there, but I was in agony, they're all so beautiful and [livejournal.com profile] tailoredshirt made so many!

Thank you both, so so much.

It's early morning here, but you've already made my day. I feel guilty about not being able to use all the other ones but I hope others will use them, with due credit of course! Killshot Kono is mine and I hope it catches on.

The icons can be found here and here.

I don't know what to say other than thank you. Thank you for taking the time, the effort and being kind enough to cater to my little need.

I'm so lucky to have such generous friends.

Alas, I am not in any state of mine to give a proper reaction post.

I enjoyed this episode thoroughly.

I have a request to the more visually creative people on my list. Would it be possible for one one you to make me an icon of Kono from this episode?

Using this pic as a base?

Kono )

You can do what you like when it comes to graphics, but if you could add the words "Killshot Kono" to the 100x100 icon it would be the best.

I know this kind of shameless, but... I really need nice things at the moment.

Thank you in advance, artist friends!

ALL THE SPOILERS )

There is a lot of interpretation material in this ep. I don't know if I'll tease it out through meta or fic, especially considering I'm working through the weekend.

Stay tuned!

So, I've been bitten by the bug.

I've brought myself up to date with "Elementary" and I'm enjoying it immensely!

I have many thoughts, none of which are to do with the cases, which honestly, so so easy, but the mental exercise Holmes and Watson go though are fun to watch.

I can see why the BBC "Sherlock" people took issue with it at the start, but it is so different, both in concept and characterisation (up to a point, they are clearly Holmes and Watson), but this Sherlock is so... sympathetic.

I mean, I feel compassion towards him in a way I didn't with the BBC version. And while the BBC Watson was more fleshed out, I do really enjoy how this Watson takes none of his shit.

Also, Bechdel Fucking Win in ep five! Between two women of colour! \o/ (Plus, Sherlock hinted at a "Sapphic" - really, CBS, really?! - entanglement and you know how observant he is ;)

And there are random people of colour in the show! (not enough to be sure, for a place set in New York city)

In addition, (and this when my brother should stop reading because I'm about to talk about things that will make him reach for the brain bleach - don't say I didn't warn you, [livejournal.com profile] hemlock_sholes) I absolutely adore how openly kinky this Holmes is. He likes bondage, he likes to be dominated, erotic asphyxiation is third date material! He has a zipper mask!

So, uh, people of my lists who are watching this, point me to the comms and kink_memes! I have gone to the AO3 page and, well, let's just say that page leaves a lot to be desires.

I'm not feeling the same degree of attachment (obsession, love, adoration?) as I do to "Hawaii Five-0", but let's see if I can juggle two fandoms, yes?

I thought I'd write a quick post while I travel to work.

I had weekend duty and as such had no time to actually do anything other than work. These weekends create a full 7 day work week, so I'm rather knackered. I didn't get to write like I had initially planned to and due to the nature of the fic I'm currently working on I need to be in a specific head space, for which I have need time to get into.

I'll see if I can can squeeze out some words when I get home. I really want to get this story out because I feel it could be the star of a whole cycle and seeing as it is set in season 2 of H50 the subject matter is that much more poignant due to what you we know and what the characters are yet to discover.

I love this kind of discrepancy in fic, it's something unique to it, the time in which the fic occurs informing us what the characters are capable of knowing as opposed to what we, the audience, the readers, know.

I also signed on as beta for a few projects which will be very interesting, because there's nothing like sifting through someone else's work to figure out your own weaknesses. And also read a fic before everyone else, mwahaha!

I look back a few months ago and felt creatively dead. I'm so glad summer is winding down.

I was motivated to get up very early this morning, acquire the episode, watch it and not be late for work!

Yay!

In other news, I need next week's episode (3.03) to air already so that fandom will stop accidentally spoiling me and freaking the fuck out of something that hasn't happened yet!

Dear [livejournal.com profile] kitmerlot1213, I was not able to do everything that was in your prompt, but I hope this is fluffy and love sick enough for you, this was not an easy write, but I hope it’s a fun read. To my spectacular beta, [livejournal.com profile] perspi, this wouldn’t have been half of good without you, thank you times a million! To my lovely proof reader, [livejournal.com profile] tailoredshirt, thank you for wrangling all the commas, all the funny accidents and for making sure this was presentable to the public. We are now less than a week away from the Season 3 premier of Hawaii Five-0 and let it be known that this has been the most frustrating summer of waiting.

Not because I was impatient.

But because fandom is impatient.

Never, ever, have I needed to be so aggressively defensive against spoilers. And I, for one, am not really a spoilerphobe.

So generic spoilers like knowing who future cast members are, or seeing the occasional behind the scenes photo of the cast while they rest and various promotional photoshoots, are small potatoes for me. But that's just me. That does't make then non-spoilers.

And the mentioned above were not the only thing spilling over from the seems all over LJ, Tumblr and Twitter. Oh no. I now know plots and have accidentally seen editing footage that Peter Lenkov (whom not everyone follows on twitter, fyi!) has so generously released. I have accidentally seen fucking press releases !

My dear friends and fellow fandom comrades, too many of you (and this is why I am not naming names, because there are TOO MANY) are either inconsiderate or do not know what constitutes a spoiler.

I've made this rant on twitter, because that's what I had time for, so I will do so here now and at greater length.

Due to the fact that I have had to unfollow, actively avoid and actually be proactive about telling people (I've tweeted at, send private messages and commented on posts and comms) that they do not mark, hashtag or cut the spoiler on their post/tweet I have come to really resent the fact that this basic netiquette is all but flung out of window.

I have seen people casually mention an event of a not yet aired episode in a tweet, I have seen people post a link without even the tiny bracketed mention of "may contain spoilers" and tumblr posts with press releases not bother to hashtag it with #spoiler.

My dear fandom, I really enjoy hanging out with you, but you're bringing me down.

As I said, I'm not really a spoilerphobe, but there is a critical mass I simply cannot tolerate.

So I ask, if you see any of the following internet products come your way and you want to post/tweet/reblog, please, please, please err on the side of caution and mention mark it as spoilery:

- Press releases
- Cast/Crew interviews
- Behind the scenes pictures
- Behind the scenes footage
- Video promos
- Articles containing cast/crew news (yes, cast is a spoiler!)
- Pictures containing cast/crew news
- Tweets/Posts that contain future plot events
- Anything that contains future plot events
- Anything that contains imagery, information, news regarding events not yet aired

If you don't think anything you have contains any of the above, or anything that I may have not mentioned, I ask you, nicely, to err on the side of caution.

Because I have asked, people, nicely, to mark spoilers and they have done so. But there are many of you.

Show some consideration to your fellow fans. I want to enjoy the show and the fandom, part of my enjoyment is not knowing what happens!.

So if you have to urge to discuss unaired events don't do it in public! Twitter, tumblr, LJ and DW are all public! Striking this, because I was rightly reprimanded that this is a call for censorship, which is never okay. I do, however, think talking on twitter with a visible time lines, tumblr without a hashtag and on LJ/DW without marking somewhere that spoilers are discussed is inconsiderate, for everything mentioned above.

The fact that I'm even making this post is staggering.

*Pokes head*

Hi.

I slept for 10 hours.

I'm still feeling pretty wiped. It was a very long weekend. I've been put on the weekend roster at work and will now be working the weekend about once every two months. Crazy.

I woke up about an hour ago and it's going to be the most stressful Holiday ever.

Shana Tova, by the way.

Thankfully, we're not having people over today or tomorrow, but we are on Tuesday, which is when I also have to go up to my apartment for the last time ever and get my desk top computer (and desk) and just, be rid of that fucking time and money suck.

I'm working again tomorrow, because the holiday needs to be dealt with as well and I decided to get my duties over and done with as fast as possible.

None of the above really makes sense unless you know what I work at and what I do, huh?

Meh.

I have my lecture on fanfiction and bisexaulity to write and I really don't feel like it, but I promised and it should be fun, at the end of the day to sit around and talk fandom with a bunch of other queers.

This paper, Queer as Folk and the Trouble with Slash, from the most recent issue of Transformative Works and Cultures is probably the best queer critique of slash. Ever.

Just to give you a taste, this is what the author, Kyra Hunting, writes in her conclusion:
[I]t is not enough to acknowledge that fan fiction and slash are not necessarily subversive. We cannot ignore the conservative potential of the exchange between canon and fanon. This is particularly imperative in cases where canonical texts have their own political goals. The ways that fan fiction can actively work to reinscribe normative or traditional values onto works that struggle with or resist these values are important sites of analysis.

This paper was written for me in mind, no doubt! Well, for other lovers and participators in slash who don't take it at face value.

I suspect that in a few issues there will be a paper about the queerbaiting phenomenon now making the waves due to Teen Wolf and the heartbreak that will occur with that.

And no, please don't tell me I need to watch the show. Others have tried. I'm over teenaged drama, angst and Alpha/Omega dynamics.

I'm honestly psyched about the fact that the season premier of Hawaii Five-0 falls on Yom Kippur eve, because that means I have no work that day and can watch and be fannish at my leisure!

Pardon me, I have to go and be Jewish.

V and Justice

V: Ah, I was forgetting that we are not properly introduced. I do not have a name. You can call me V. Madam Justice...this is V. V... this is Madam Justice. hello, Madam Justice.

Justice: Good evening, V.

V: There. Now we know each other. Actually, I've been a fan of yours for quite some time. Oh, I know what you're thinking...

Justice: The poor boy has a crush on me...an adolescent fatuation.

V: I beg your pardon, Madam. It isn't like that at all. I've long admired you...albeit only from a distance. I used to stare at you from the streets below when I was a child. I'd say to my father, "Who is that lady?" And he'd say "That's Madam Justice." And I'd say "Isn't she pretty."

V: Please don't think it was merely physical. I know you're not that sort of girl. No, I loved you as a person. As an ideal.

Justice: What? V! For shame! You have betrayed me for some harlot, some vain and pouting hussy with painted lips and a knowing smile!

V: I, Madam? I beg to differ! It was your infidelity that drove me to her arms!

V: Ah-ha! That surprised you, didn't it? You thought I didn't know about your little fling. But I do. I know everything! Frankly, I wasn't surprised when I found out. You always did have an eye for a man in uniform.

Justice: Uniform? Why I'm sure I don't know what you're talking about. It was always you, V. You were the only one...

V: Liar! Slut! Whore! Deny that you let him have his way with you, him with his armbands and jackboots!

V: Well? Cat got your tongue? I though as much.

V: Very well. So you stand revealed at last. you are no longer my justice. You are his justice now. You have bedded another.

Justice: Sob! Choke! Wh-who is she, V? What is her name?

V: Her name is Anarchy. And she has taught me more as a mistress than you ever did! She has taught me that justice is meaningless without freedom. She is honest. She makes no promises and breaks none. Unlike you, Jezebel. I used to wonder why you could never look me in the eye. Now I know. So good bye, dear lady. I would be saddened by our parting even now, save that you are no longer the woman I once loved.
