Okay so.
*blows nose and wipes eyes*
Oh Chin! Chin! Just writing his name now is making my eyes well up in tears. Oh my god.
Dark, dark, mega-dark season opener.
All my feelings are jumbled and messed up, so I apologise in advance if this is less than coherent. I have a great many, many thoughts and hopefully after I've watched the ep again and have screencaps, I'll be able to make more sense.
When Doris said "Agency", I probably squeaked in a less than dignified manner, because I'd been carrying the suspicion that she was CIA (or some other Intelligence acronym) for a while now. And considering the duplicitous nature in which the "Intelligence Community" (except Catherine and Steve) have been depicted... well, you see where I'm going.
I'll be frank, I am not warm to Doris. I find her as trust worthy as Joe, just as morally ambiguous and considering the two have been colluding (something NOT mentioned in the ep, BTW! That one will bite us on the ass!) for the past twenty years at the expence of the rest of the McGarrett's family, I find myself less than compassionate towards her.
Add to that, that she clearly negotiated some kind of deal behind Steve's back, again, with Wo Fat, I'm not going to believe she has Steve's best interests at heart.
Ever.
Chin. I knew, in my heart, that Malia was going to be fridged. I'm curious about Chin's arc, now, because his moral centre is now utterly off kilter, I am willing to go with the ride, but I'm hoping Chin's moral vacuum comes back to him and that the show doesn't let him off the hook with this. Revenge, the show has made very clear, is a path that leads to no closure, only to more death debts and while this is a really, really fun narrative, it's one that creates a transformation in Chin that will isolate him from himself and the team.
Dark days ahead.
Kono and prince schmultzy a.k.a Adam. I like them, they're a sweet couple. I'm glad Adam got the chance to be a hero. I'm glad Kono shot the guy who tipped her over. That pleased me, immensely, talk about punching the air. I'm glad the show made it clear that as far as Kono is concerned, Chin made the right decision, even if Chin is now agonising over it, that their relationship is unshakable, even if Chin is now on rocky ground.
Steve, you beautiful monster, my favourite part was him chewing out Doris, honestly and telling her how it is and how it was. Making it clear that he and Mary weren't just abandoned by her, but by Jack as well, due to her actions. Making it clear, that he and Mary are utterly fucked up by her decisions - that her selfishness didn't actually save anyone, but her own ass. The fact that he called her "Doris", until the end, made me feel squishy inside.
Catherine, oh she kicked ass. Annnnnnnnnnnd, made it clear that she's not really sure about Doris and her feelings for Steve. I am willing to fangirl Catherine, though I would like a Bechdel Win show! I'll overlook this once, because really, the only thing Doris and Cath have in common is Steve, but please! I want a proper Bechdel win!
And by the way, Doris really irked me with her attitude; woman, you have no say in Steve's life, okay, you gave that up.
I'm really happy Danny called her on it. In fact, it's clear Danny doesn't like her all that much and as happens more often than not, I'm with Danny. Who, uh, while in the car with Doris and Steve kept looking towards Steve (Scott, you are going to kill me this season, I can tell) whenever Doris talked about his relationship issues. "Commitment issues"? Doris, you don't know the first thing about Danny, so please, kindly, don't talk about commitment when you've made it clear what your priorities aren't. Also, ha, burn on the "parenting advice", thank you Danny, you read my mind.
Steve is pushing Danny away. Again. This makes me sad, though it's predictable. Especially when Steve's world in out of whack. Thankfully, Danny is staying right where he is and while I agree with Steve that Grace is going to be a casualty in a war between Rachel and Danny (oh, god, this is going to make go crazy), and I find it sweet that he wants what's best for Grace and wants the least amount of hurt in Danny's family. Sadly, no.
Also, that cargument? Pure-fucking-gold! Steve called Danny a bear! a Bear! Be still my queer heart!
Regardless, this was a strong season opener, lots of worms out of new cans. I'm kind of sorry I don't like Doris as much as I want to, but it's in the same way that I dislike Joe. I don't like them as people, but I adore the way they make Steve feel.
Off Topic: Can anyone tell me what Danny's ringtone for Rachel is? The song sounds familiar, but I really couldn't tell you what song it was or who sang it.
