I was motivated to get up very early this morning, acquire the episode, watch it and not be late for work!
Yay!
Danny empathised with a skull.
Let me repeat. Danny empathised with a skull.
Gimme some Shakespeare, please!
I really don't know what to add to that, but I shall endeavour.
I almost died at Danny's marriage joke. Considering the coda I wrote last week it held a significant punch to the gut on a number of levels, especially with the amount of antagonism Danny exuded throughout the ep.
Though the sweet closing scene between Chin and Danny nailed a rather uninspiring episode. I think it's safe to say that Chin and Danny, as far as archetypes go, are the solid ones, the dependable ones, whereas Steve and Kono are the firecrackers (their life choices are rather telling in this) and seeing Danny contains Chin's grief by enabling him to share a happy memory says a lot about the role each of them play in the team.
Danny is the heart. Chin is the mind.
And with Steve the flesh and Kono the spirit, we can move on!
Over all it wasn't the most enjoyable eps plot wise. Really, couldn't care less about March and lythographs and I couldn't even be concerned about the poor kidnapped girl.
The opening scene with Malia's memorial was beautiful and necessary, I hope we see more of Chin's grief throughout the season even if hell "see her again" (I'm sorry, I found his acceptance rather quick and hard to swallow, but that might just be me).
As I said, the procedure portion of the episode rather sucked, I was just waiting for things to move along.
I had to rewatch the episode in order to unpack the scene in which Catherine extracts the intel from the WitSec guy, because I am really allergic to the way the whole scene was constructed from the WitSec guy's pov, utterly and completely objectifying her. It irked me, because I seriously don't need the long camera panning up her legs and down her shirt, thanks.
But she rocked, she really did.
I want to see more of her being smart and competent, and an intelligence officer! Seeing some of the friend-with-benefits thing as opposed to "love affair" will also be interesting! I rather enjoy their casual affair, considering it leaves a whole lot of leeway to Steve much deeper connection with the rest of the team.
In other news, I need next week's episode (3.03) to air already so that fandom will stop accidentally spoiling me and freaking the fuck out of something that hasn't happened yet!
