Because I am lazy
Apr. 16th, 2006 11:50 amI have decided to post what Mummy wrote about our visit to Washington DC, and I'll just ass some running commentary in italics.
We had such a great time - or as Shvo would say - it was so cool!
We got the Chinatown bus ($28 round trip) and it took 2 very comfortable hours to get there. -I slept for those entire two hours, like a log, had one hell of a neck ache after-. The stop in DC is ten minutes walk to the Hotel Harrington which is a block from the Washington Welcome Center where we had to get the trolley bus tour. It was very lucky I had booked on-line as when we got there at 12:30 it was sold-out! (-And to think I made fun of her for ordering eTickets-). And the morning we were going back to Philly, we walked past the Center at 09:30 there were queues right around the block to get the tickets. Anyway, we had planned to get off at The White House, but the guide (-who was nicknamed “red beard”, I felt like any minute now we were to be abducted by pirates- ) made the National Zoo sound so enticing with the Giant Pandas, -they were so cute!!! And Mummy bought me a stuffed Panda who’s name is Tai-Shan which is the name of the famous baby-Panda- , that we decided to get off at that stop. It was a great decision, as Shvo really needed the exercise and running around in the open air after the long bus ride. We each had a huge Baskin-Robbins ice-cream walking along (one scoop =3 regular) -it was so big, I didn’t eat anything else ‘till supper!- and everyone stopped to look at Shvo as his face enjoyed the chocolate ice-cream as much as his tummy did!
The Pandas were amazing and it is an extraordinary zoo all round. The weather was also extraordinary and I had to buy Shvo a hat as it was so hot, and Melody and I peeled off clothing layer by layer.
To continue - after an hour or so at the zoo we walked back to the trolley stop and boarded the next one and continued on the tour which trundled around Embassy Row, Georgetown, the Potomac, the Kennedy Center, the White House and then back to the Washington Welcome Center. We got off there and went to the Hotel. So Melody didn't see the Mall and all the memorials -It was okay, since I didn’t really expect to what with Shvo being with us- but she'll do it all next time -Exactly!-. She was very happy with the tour as it got her orientated and she's looking forward to going back to DC soon. It also reinforced my belief that when you're with a child of 4 you can't do too many things in one day. As it was he loved the Zoo, adored the trolley ride and told Jade that the ice-cream was the best thing in Washington DC!!! I kept on thinking how great it would be to do this sort of thing with him and Amos together -I miss my other nephews-. He asks me endless questions about "Amosi" and if I want him to do something he's reluctant to do, all I have to say is, "Well, Amos doesn't mind brushing his teeth, or eating an apple etc, etc."
The hotel was lovely - this time I asked for 2 double beds, not twin beds pushed together, so Shvo and I shared one bed very comfortably and all slept well, not like last time where I was falling out of bed all night! -Again, I slept like an effing log, I don’t move during the night-
We all showered and bathed and then took the Metro to Bethesda and Susan fetched us from the station. Sam and Alice Aaron are in America on holiday, and they and Colin were there having drinks and were sooo nice to me, I was quite taken aback as I didn't think they knew I existed. -All of Mummy’s enthusiasm, it was nice to get to know the people who knew Mummy’s family, I don’t know much about them and there were anecdotes abound that evening!- As I walked in,(they were sitting in the garden) Sam stood up and came towards me and hugged me and said "I can't believe it, you are unmistakably Dacie Hersch's daughter!" Alice didn't stop talking to me and begged me to contact them next time I'm in London, and they'd love to "take me to lunch"! -lol-They left to go out for dinner after an hour as Sam is asthmatic and allergic to cats -The cat looked like a long haired domestic, not a pedigree-, so he can't go inside the house (why we couldn't have eaten outside is beyond me as the weather was so balmy). In the event it was very nice just to talk to the Geisels and Godfrey, and Melody made quite a hit -*bows*- with them and has already arranged to go and stay there next month -Yay!-. Shvo was a real star and his every movement was met with praise and applause! So it was a very successful evening. Thank goodness I took the trouble to schlep the chocolates as Susan gave Melody a beautiful necklace -Pearls and what looks like gold thread, it’s probably fake, but it’s so purrrdy!- to welcome her to America and a big Lego set to Shvo. They took us back to the hotel at about 10 and Shvo fell asleep in the car.
This morning we woke up at 8, checked out at 9:30 and found a nice breakfast place. I had a peach and banana smoothie. We went to see Ford's Theatre and "The House Where Lincoln Died" -That’s what it’s called… seriously- across the street from it as the 15th April is the date of his death so it was a big event in DC this weekend. Then it was time to get the bus back to Philly and we came home.
-The End
Doesn’t Mummy make it sound like a fairy tale?-

Date: 2006-04-16 05:34 pm (UTC)You might want to try guided meditations by Andrew Weill or Deepak Chopra. You can always listen to a sample online or in Borders and see if it sounds like it's right for you. I like the guided ones, as opposed to ones with just music, because it gives your brain something to focus on instead of letting it run wild. There are also many meditations for certain things, i.e. relaxation, so if you're looking for something along that line, it'll say it on the CD cover. Wish I could give you more advice, but I'm so sick of what I have now and I'm looking for some new stuff. Maybe we should look together! :D
