In which everyone becomes straight, because the previous episode was just that gay.
Okay, so the, er, I hesitate to use this word, "plot" for this episode is the kidnapping of a jock girl whose heart is a ticking time bomb. *nods*
This is me, getting that glazed look, because I couldn't care less.
Not that Steve was giving off any gay vibe by wearing a suit and reading a woman's magazine. Sorry, show, even giving us the heels-to-face angle shot of the new blonde bomb shell in Steve's life isn't fooling anyone.
Lovely heels, am I right, Steve?
Dennings is awesome. I love him. He is not going to go down the Jameson road of allowing Steve and the Five-0 to do whatever the hell they want.
He is so telling her to babysit.
Oh, so Lori has experience with kidnapping… glazing over again, because wow, I'm so not interested in what happens to that girl. I want to see the awkwardness between Steve and Lori!
Also, she is her own alpha woman, hells yes! No riding shot gun, she has her own car :P
And Danny! Danny commenting on Steve's looks, not once but twice, aw, babe you really missed him didn't you?! That stab wound really worried you, huh?
Danny you sweetheart, apologizing for Steve's lack of manners too nice.
Blah blah blah. Plot about white Jock girl on winning a race in Hawaii. Blah blah blah.
Jenna, you spy girl you!
"She's cute." Danny, your bisexuality is showing.
"She's attractive." Steve, you are so taking your cue from Danny, you're not fooling anyone.
"She worked for homeland security." Christ, yes she is there to actually work rather than be an ornament!
"Could come in handy." Thank you Chin, for being an adult after Terrible Two reduced her a mannequin.
Sgt. Slaughter!!!!!!!!
Tom Sizemore, go fuck off and die, please. Your face on my screen makes me break out in hives. It also doesn't help that you're acting like a predator in Kono's house.
Ooooh, Lori is competent, thank you show. Thank you for giving me another woman to love!
Blah blah blah, boring plot is the most boring plot EVER. I just can't care. Although going for the sexual predator angle is smart.
"Nice work." Yes show, nice work on showing Steve wants the new girl as far away from HQ as possible and Danny's observation that she makes Steve really, really uncomfortable. Of course Danny is just "curious", he is going to be like a dog with a bone on this, I can see it.
Max. Hello Max. Too bad you're doing boring plot things and delivering your lines in the most deadpan way ever. Hope to see you later!
Creepy stalking wall is creepy.
Lori, you are upfront and assertive. I <3 you. Although if you could stop looking like you're going to cry any second that would be helpful too. Make up, department, why do you do this?
Lori's character is going for emotional foil, it's awkward, because this would usually be Danny's role. But I'm curious to see where this goes.
Chin and Kono, lovely family moment, in the face of Tom Sizemore's predatory actions as IA captain.
It's pretty significant that a white man is going after a non-white woman, I wonder if anyone has in writing room noticed this is what they were doing.
Steve and Lori, sitting in a tree, making awkward small talk because nothing screams attraction like talking about coffee and tea.
I bet you, so much money, Danny converted him to cream, but that's my fanfiction brain talking.
Of course, tea and coffee was just a distraction from the intel they pulled over each other.
"Couldn't hack the sciences?" you know, I was just talking about this last night, the sciences are a very sexist discipline, which is funny, because in their purest form, the gendered brain is irrelevant when it comes to them.
So, thank you Steve, your sexism was showing, despite the fact that Criminal Justice rocks and I'm convinced that this was Danny's field of studies when he was in college.
That whole exchange was sexist. "Man enough"? To Steve?! Yeah, okay.
"How's the date?" yes, Danny we know you'd rather be in there. And Chin, kudos on the encouragement.
And boring plot is still so very, very boring. Cult? Really? *facepalm* beyond being boring, it is also ridiculous. So ridiculous, oh my god.
Now, it's not like I expect H50 to be the height of television plot arcs, because you know, network television, police procedural and all, but my suspense of disbelief, it is hanging on by a sheer thread people!
Kono! Kono why are you all alone!? And you know you're alone because you're so sad. Kono! I want to hug her so bad here.
Tom Sizemore, please go fuck off and die some more.
And… they straightened Jenna! God fucking damnit, show! No ambiguity for me! Jesus.
"If there's a chance he might be alive…" was an out loud "arrrgh" moment for me. Because oh my god, it was as if the writers read my mind and said, she can't be the only one that noticed right?!
I hate this, I really do.
But, Jenna is a lying liar who lies. She's working for/under Wo Fat's thumb. I'll not believe it until all is reveald.
Childish, I know, but this my own middle finger to the heterosexual imperative.
Ooooh, leaving Oahu… and horses. Yay, horseback riding!
"How long have you two been married?"
Well done Lori. You made them shut up awkwardly. Boys, are you ever going to get your act together? Nope, probably not.
Hey there, Senator Kelly, you just can't help being evil, huh? More boring plot, my god.
Badass Steve, Badass Danny and Badass Lori. It's all good. I'm just gonna lean back and watch the gun fire.
"Hippies" Danny, you're adorable.
Lori you are a kick ass woman in sensible shoes, I'm glad you've joined the team!
I can't be the only one who had the Old Spice Guy's voice in her head throughout that entire scene of Steve actually riding to the rescue.
Also, good work of the heavy handedness show, nothing better than a metaphor smacking me across the face. At least it was plot based and not character based, because the show is generally better at that.
Oh, Lori is compassionate. Good, we need more of this, because Steve has possibly lost what little he had of it after prison and the discoveries of last week.
Good on the show of not canceling out the love of adoptive parents and the pain of giving up a baby so that they could have a better life.
At least the boring plot is over now. Thank god.
Steve! What? Is that aloha shirt you're wearing! Also, *fist bump*.
Yeah, Jenna is leaving, we can't have too many women on this show, huh?
Get in Tom Sizemore's face, Chin. And sub-arc is now clear. Tom Sizemore is there to be the pain in Five-0's ass, while Wo Fat and Jenna plot their destruction.
Kono, you are so going to save the day. I can feel it.
Conclusions:
I like Lori, a lot. The lovely awkwardness between her and Steve which was supposed to be UST? So cute, show, I can see what you're doing there. I realise the previous episode scared the crap out of you, but this is, ha, just silly.
I'm reminded of how one of my friends, always tries to make out with me and it's always a running gag in our group of friends, because he's gay and I'm gay, and it just ends up being a big joke.
I love Jenna, a lot. She is still gay! *stomps foot*.
Danny and Steve need some quality time together.
Chin is the only one who is a mature adult, unless it's about Kono, then he's all "she's my cousin but I'm gonna be her big brother in this!"
Kono, you are going to be so awesome, despite the very sad eyes. You have your chosen family's support (but not in this episode). It'll be fantastic.
ETA: But over all, bad writing. Just, not very good. Make up for it please. I'd hate to have to rip this show a new one, after I had a summer of gloriousness.

Date: 2011-09-28 10:34 am (UTC)And this ep everything was just very skewed compared to the première and the whole first season barring the episodes, surprise, written by the people who wrote this ep.

Me too, me too!
And, ffff, yeah, the plot? Puts a whole new meaning into 'plot what plot', really. I mostly came out of it just wanting to smack people upside of the head for not being there for Kono more, even though I could see why. Sort of.

Date: 2011-09-28 10:36 am (UTC)I'm not saying I have a whole lot of faith in the producers and writers, and this ep had very skeevy gender and race dynamics when it came to Kono, but I have faith in her that she'll be amazing.

Date: 2011-09-28 10:42 am (UTC)A large percentage of the internet seems to desperately want to hug Kono right now, though, so there's that much. ♥

Date: 2011-09-28 10:47 am (UTC)I like female characters who are feminine, competent and not derided for both. Lori entered on the wrong foot, but then again, I get the feeling she was supposed to.
Obviously, when the new white normatively beautiful comes in and over shadows two non-white characters and "replaces" the tom-boy looking girl... it is problematic politically speaking.

Date: 2011-09-28 10:52 am (UTC)And, exactly, there were far too many white folks running the show in this episode (and I'm a white chick myself, you know!). Dude.
I'm laughing at the idea of them trying to out Sue each other, though. :D

Date: 2011-09-28 11:04 am (UTC)Again, it's not her fault she was objectified by the camera and that Steve's sexism came out to play (she was pretty sexist herself).
The racial dynamics were creepy as fuck, because of the Sizmore-Park situation. I mean, what are you telling me when a white man with power enters the house of an Asian-Hawaiian without a warrant and basically threatens her just by being a white man who abuses his power. That would have never happened to Chin, Danny or Steve and I resent the fact that this gender essentialism came to play in this ep at all, when in previous eps this really wasn't an issue.

Date: 2011-09-28 11:11 am (UTC)This is obviously true. XD
I mean, what are you telling me when a white man with power enters the house of an Asian-Hawaiian without a warrant and basically threatens her just by being a white man who abuses his power.
Yeah, exactly. Cringe-worthy, and seriously, seriously disturbing. But then, who knows, perhaps it's all deliberate and they're just pulling our strings intentionally. One can only (possibly?) hope.
