Quick Note: Torchwood: MD Ep 7
Aug. 21st, 2011 10:08 pmYeah, well.
I was going to wait for the end of the series to write an over-all reaction/meta regarding "Miracle Day".
As the serires progressed I simply hated it and doubted I would even bother to talk about it.
This was not the "Torchwood" I loved, not the first two seasons and not CoE.
This was a mediocre trash sci-fi production I avoided, because well, it was trash.
Every minute of the first six episodes filled me with rage and hatred towards RTD, who took a show I loved, loved so much, loved as I would a friend, and decided to scorch the earth with it.
The concept was brilliant, the execution far less so, putting it mildly. Not to mention, that the reason I decided to watch was due to loyalty to Jack and Gwen and they kept getting shafted by these idiot Americans!
And then, now, episode seven. The episode I will most likely watch again, just because it was so gorgeous (the torture was gratuitous, we get it, it fucking hurts and we get the Jesus imagery, which was far more poignant when Angelo cleaned Jack's feet, by the way, than the idiotic vio dolorosa) and was exactly what "Torchwood" is supposed to be - a dialogue with history, the audience and with Jack himself as a constant outsider.
I resent, really fucking resent, that I had to sit through the shit that were the first six episodes in order to be able to love the show again. Especially considering it is going to take a dive in the next ep, because, well, this is as good as it gets.
Oh my god, Jack, where have you been until now?
The religious angle is an interesting one, especially as it intersects with the rest of the narrative regarding immortality/mortality.
I was dreading this ep, because I had been dreading them all, so I was not expecting it to be as good as it was. I'm still dreading the next episode, because it can't be as good as this one.

Date: 2011-08-21 07:42 pm (UTC)Yes, concentration camps are horrible and death happens in them, there is no need to hit us over the head with the fact that they are fucking horrible and have a really long history of being terrible, inhumane and murderous.
I was upset, made myself sit through it, seethed and still, I kept on watching. I'll have to wait and see if it was worth it.
