Seen "Inception"
Aug. 5th, 2010 01:51 amHow much did I love this movie?
So much!
From Poe to Alice to Greek Mythology to Genesis.
What was lovely, beyond many many things I will not get into because I am seriously overwhelmed is how every single character, beyond Dom Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio) was round, multi-leyered and with a story of their own that could have been a movie. I love that.
The clothes... seriously, Arthur's clothes made me want to Drag it out!
But the names. The names had meaning when it comes to the movie:
Ariadne - she who gave the twine in order to escape the maze. A little heavy handed, but then the character was a little heavy handed in her manner too. Personally speaking, I cannot imagine a man of Cobb's age and character confiding in a Student like Ariadne after such a short amount of time - maybe if he had been her teacher/mentor for a while.
Cobb - according to the Interwebs is derived from "Jacob", who wrestled and struggled with Angles and also had a vision or dream of a ladder. The levels, the layers, like the rungs on a ladder. Really brilliant. Though Cobb is his last name and his first name is Dom (Dominic) it's quite clear that he answers more to Cobb.
Yusuf - Oh, Yusuf, ie. Yosef, i.e. Joseph. Talk about significant names in movies about dreams :)
Mal - the poison in Cobb's mind.
Oh, I could go on. But seriously, I have to see it again if only to listen to Hans Zimmer be brilliant in his cadence and cues.
Just... brilliant.

Date: 2010-08-05 07:35 am (UTC)I love the Sherlock Holmes soundtrack and now want this one! If Nolan decides that Zimmer is his guy (like Tim Burton with Danny Elfman or Spielberg with John Williams) it would be fantastic!
