Gratuitous Fangrrling
Nov. 16th, 2008 03:17 pmI'd be embarrassed, if this weren't so very awesome!
I'm so very glad my character crushes are always acted by extra talented people! See, my current character crush is Ianto Jones of Torchwood (played by Gareth David-Lloyd, who looks prettier without the facial hair, but I digress).
I could probably go for a very long time about what attracts me to Ianto - beyond the pretty baby-face factor and the snappy suits, he is a very reserved, introverted, vastly under estimated by practically everyone who meets him for the first time, super-intelligent and a sarcastic bastard.
What's not to love?
Regardless, Mr. David-Lloyd himself is also a man one can admire. Beyond being an extremely promising actor (I hope to see him in other non-Torchwood things, even though I hope Torchwood continues forever! Like Captain Jack!) he's also a hell of a singer!
He's part of a self-described blues/rock/ambient group called "Blue Gillespie", a fierce foursome of musicians which GDL fronts as vocalist (and crowed pleaser).
The music is really, really good and you can hear samples of their music on their MySpace Page.
His speaking voice is so different from him singing voice I actually had a hard time believing it was soft spoken Ianto Jones singing out those hard notes.
I really hope they release an album soon, because they really are good, though I have the feeling they're very much a stage performing kind of band, as one can see here:
And if that wasn't enough, they performed at an event called Sex, Wales and Anarchy.
Again, what's not to love?
Thus ends the gratuitous fangrrling of Gareth David-Lloyd.
Well, okay, here's another song, performed at SWA:
I want to also mention John Barrowman (Captain Jack of Who and Torchwood) since he's an extra talented man too, but I feel a bit weird going all gratuitous on him.
I don't know why, it's just the way it is.
In any event, something some of you may not have known is that Mr. Barrowman is a singer as well. A very good one too, though I personally dislike (see hate!) the kind of balades he's been recording, he started as a musical performer and singer and it really is his best medium for singing, in my opinion:
And simply because I heard this yesterday and think you all should have this stuck in your head together with me:
And isn't he a Charmer ;)
Edited To Add: [Southern!Girl], none of these boys are any competition. They are in fact a fantasy that is likely to be far superior to who they really are... since they're... you know... celebrities *smooches*
