Those of you who have been paying attention know that the Senior Lecturers of our Universities have been on strike (we are now in week six of the strike). In an act of raising awareness to the issues for which the strike is happening (legitimate, though aggravating it may be), I will be joining my fellow students, junior and senior lecturers in locking the University gates for the day and continue with a rally later this week and next.

I hate this strike.
Really I do.

And while I know this little stand will do little to move things along, it's too important to not make a stand for the crumbling education system (both Higher and Lower) in this farkukt country!

With my luck it will probably rain.
But it'll be worth it and after all, sit-ins are fun!

I've actually done this meme before, but that was back when I was a new blogger and didn't know as many people.
This is from [livejournal.com profile] aesiron:

1. Tell you why I friended you.
2. Associate you with something - fandom, a song, a colour, a photo, etc.
3. Tell you something I like about you.
4. Tell you a memory I have of you.
5. Ask something I've always wanted to know about you.
6. Tell you my favorite user pic of yours.
7. In return, you must can, if you want, post this in your LJ.

ETA: Oh, and a Happy 1st Light of Hannukah to all the Jew Grrlz and Boiz who read this and to everyone else have a Good Week!

1. We met on [livejournal.com profile] buffyphilosophy, we clicked due to fandom and the rest is history. You're one of my oldest LJ friends who I didn't know IRL prior to LJ :)
2. Associate you with something - Buffy and Star Trek, Us by Regina and you're the colour blue to me... oh and Sarah Fimm, I always think of you when I hear Sarah Fimm :)
3. Despite that fact that you think you're a little sociopathic, you're one of the most giving, courageous and kind people I've had the pleasure to meet online and IRL.
4. The two days we spent together in Philly, coffee shops, books stores, standing in line at the auto-repair for nothing and seeing what is one of my fave movies together.
5. If you had a chance to live outside the US, what non-english speaking country would you consider? I'm quite curious.
6. Leon and Matilda... so sweet :)

1. I didn't realize I was one of your oldest livejournal friends. Neat.

2. "Us"? Wow. That's an amazing song to be associated with.

3. I misread this the first time and thought you said that you think I'm sociopathic, which was pretty shocking, though I took no offense and obviously agreed. :p

5. Germany, perhaps. I'd have a hell of a time trying to learn German but the stereotype is not entirely unlike my own personality and I like what little I know of its current politics. If not it, then maybe the Netherlands. Italy's probably third and is actually my top vacation destination but it doesn't strike me as a country I'd want to live in.

To go off on a slight tangent — I came here from feministe rather recently and don't know mel well enough to answer many of the actual questions yet —, I should like to note that German politics have been a tad controversial of late. There is an erosion of civil liberties (same as in the UK and in the US, some might argue), a loss of social security, bad treatment of the poor and the unemployed, etc. I don't know you well enough to hazard a guess as to whether you find that a good thing or a bad thing, but moreover, the two major parties are ruling jointly at the moment, so the opposition is particularly weak, and all-around hopelessness never seems a good outlook for a democracy, no matter what specific philosophies one might follow otherwise. :(

I'm fairly left of center compared to my countrymen as a whole but, unfortunately, am much more like them in international affairs. I only have the most basic awareness of German, French, or even Canadian politics and was unaware of everything you just wrote and they have my utmost sympathy considering the past eight years.

Me me me!

As I recall we did mine at yours when we met last week (yummy soup).

1. Well, seeing as I knew you since I was what... 8! I couldn't not friend you when I got as LJ.
2. Buffy and the חוסטיס ליג, Popular from Wicked ;) and you're definitely the colour red.
3. I like many, many things about you, but you listen to me and even if you disagree with me, you're on my side - and you let do the same for you.
4. So many, but one that I'll always cherish is how you let me cry and just listened to me when I told you about the War - I know, heavy and deep, but all the little and flighty memories, we make new ones like that all the time!
5. When I see you and think of something :)
6. Definitely Harley, that righteous babe!

2. V for Vendetta, various filks and blue.
3. I like hearing your convictions and values and how you can tear into religious arguments and sound so nice and sweet.
4. Meeting at Fantasy-Con and talking comics - oooh, how I love that!
5. Next time I see you, I'll ask you :)
6. V of course!

V and Justice

V: Ah, I was forgetting that we are not properly introduced. I do not have a name. You can call me V. Madam Justice...this is V. V... this is Madam Justice. hello, Madam Justice.

Justice: Good evening, V.

V: There. Now we know each other. Actually, I've been a fan of yours for quite some time. Oh, I know what you're thinking...

Justice: The poor boy has a crush on me...an adolescent fatuation.

V: I beg your pardon, Madam. It isn't like that at all. I've long admired you...albeit only from a distance. I used to stare at you from the streets below when I was a child. I'd say to my father, "Who is that lady?" And he'd say "That's Madam Justice." And I'd say "Isn't she pretty."

V: Please don't think it was merely physical. I know you're not that sort of girl. No, I loved you as a person. As an ideal.

Justice: What? V! For shame! You have betrayed me for some harlot, some vain and pouting hussy with painted lips and a knowing smile!

V: I, Madam? I beg to differ! It was your infidelity that drove me to her arms!

V: Ah-ha! That surprised you, didn't it? You thought I didn't know about your little fling. But I do. I know everything! Frankly, I wasn't surprised when I found out. You always did have an eye for a man in uniform.

Justice: Uniform? Why I'm sure I don't know what you're talking about. It was always you, V. You were the only one...

V: Liar! Slut! Whore! Deny that you let him have his way with you, him with his armbands and jackboots!

V: Well? Cat got your tongue? I though as much.

V: Very well. So you stand revealed at last. you are no longer my justice. You are his justice now. You have bedded another.

Justice: Sob! Choke! Wh-who is she, V? What is her name?

V: Her name is Anarchy. And she has taught me more as a mistress than you ever did! She has taught me that justice is meaningless without freedom. She is honest. She makes no promises and breaks none. Unlike you, Jezebel. I used to wonder why you could never look me in the eye. Now I know. So good bye, dear lady. I would be saddened by our parting even now, save that you are no longer the woman I once loved.

*KABOOM!*
