Armchair Activism
May. 8th, 2007 12:10 amSomeone asked me why I've started signing all my posts with "In addition, I the genocide in Darfur must be stopped."
I've seen this phenomena on several Israeli blogs, but it is in fact a tradition instilled by Cato the Elder who in his later years was known for closing all his Senate addresses with "Ceterum censeo Carthaginem esse delendam." which is Latin for: "Moreover, I advise that Carthage must be destroyed."
He said this at the end of all his speeches no matter what the subject was about.
It was a clear way of raising awareness to a danger the majority of Rome was ignoring, since Carthage had already been beat before.
Well this is a modern rendition of the same act, in order to raise awareness to the genocide in Darfur.
It is just one more thing we can do to try and stop the extermination of people of every age and gender, simply because they live in an area of Sudan where Muslim Extremists decided they cannot live anymore.
The world is ignoring this and is continuing the slippery slope of Africa being abandoned and destroyed.
