Oh my god, this took forever to write. I had to stop watching ten minutes to the end, because my ride to work called me. Then, I had to go sign my lease and had to stop in the middle of the rewatch for this post (oh, yeah, I'm moving to my own flat with a room mate, more on that later). And then, it took forever for me to download the screencaps I wanted for this post.

But here it is. I hope you enjoy!

Hawaii montage of surfing and pretty girls in bikinis.

I admit I saw the shark ruse coming a mile away, just, you know, it's a classic. Also, obnoxious children who are obnoxious. That kid deserved to be touched by that corpsy hand.

I don't know if I ever mentioned this publicly, but the theme is the bane of my existence! There's a story there, maybe some other time, or if one of you asks.

Kamekona, you adorable entrepreneur. My favourite capitalist. I'd also like to mention that Steve is actively channelling Danny here ("3 flavours not 31" hehe).

Oh, Wo Fat! And again, the lies just poured out of Joe's mouth, not surprised that he never passed the intel to DoD.

And Max is so adorably disgusting.
I'm a little surprised by Steve's face, this is the guy who pulled a head out of a box. Danny's nauseated face looks like mine, just btw.

Oh plot. This plot. Salvage diving. I have to say, after seeing Scott in "Into The Blue", I'm a whole lot less enamoured with salvage diving as a plot, just... *sigh*.

But lovely Danny/Steve interaction in this part. I love it when they investigate!

And treasure!!!!!!!! And again, I knew they were fake, the plots, ahem, are really too predictable, but lovely to watch none the less.

Oh my god, Lori, you suck. You are terrible. Ugh. Frowning really hard does not make up for the fact that you cannot act!!!!!! You emote badly!

Okay, moving on to what is possibly my favourite bit in the entire episode; the boys are at a museum! Oh man, you have no idea how psyched that made me, seriously I gasped out loud, just, oh so much love for the geekery.

Also, Danny, you are a crude little Jersey boy, if this show were not a network show (well, yeah) he would have said:
"One day you are the kind of the ocean, next thing you know you're hanging from a ceiling in a museum with little children looking at your dick."

And oh, hello, it's Rachel's doppelgänger!!!!!!

Danny's face.

Oh, man, Danny's face!

It was this face:

And oh wow, so hard on the rebound baby, poor Danny, this is going to be sweet and then it is going to crash and burn. Crash and burn.

Poor Gabrielle, just saying.

And Steve, your jealous face is the most adorable thing ever. EVER!

This face:

Ah, McGuffin blah blah blah McGuffin, plotty plot plot, which isn't actually the plot. An ahaha, shout out to "Into the Blue", two hours I will never get back and not even Scott's gorgeousness made up for it.

Oh the cargument. Steve is so fucking jealous, it's actually amazing. Not to mention Danny's cold feet at the thought of entering a relationship again, you know, no that he's not staring at the Rach-errr sorry, Gabrielle's face. Seriously... doppelgänger!

The show is clever with this, I like how Danny's story is slowly moving parallel to Steve's but in the background.

Whereas Chin and Kono are also moving in parallel narratives, I'm quite sure the two main arcs (Wo Fat and Kono's involvement with Delaney - is that his name? Whatever, that Baldwin guy) will coalesce at some point, simply because the structure demands it, though it will be fun to see where they go with it.

But in the end, this whole episode was a little microcosm of the entire show - it was an adventure story that involved the grey areas of family, the one you come from and the one you chose. I daren't use 'ohana even though the word beckons, but there are major glitches they need to work through before they come back to being the balanced team they once were.

Getting rid of Joe and Lori is paramount and I have no doubt there will conflict.

Oh, wow, that was a digression of epic proportion.

Where were we? Oh yes, the cargument!

"Getting back on the horse" and seeking professional help, huh? Oh, look, Catherine.

I'll admit, I never liked Catherine. She is a total instrumental character and is thus quite boring to watch - I mean, all she was there for was so that Steve could have an inside person in the Navy. Oh, and to create deniability vis a vis sexuality. She is better conceived that most instrumental characters, but I just can't get over how unprofessional she was in season 1 - she would have been caught and court martialed for helping civilians use military satellites.

But oh, they are sweet here aren't they.

Also, Steve suspects Joe (finally, I might add). Personally, I don't think Joe is evil, he's ambiguous, the only really evil people so far are Wo Fat and Delaney...

Chin and plot. Plot and Chin. I'm glad we can rely on Chin to actually move the plot forward and be a bridge between the two arcs.

Oh Lori, every time I see your irritating face I actually want to tell to snap out of it, because you have no facial expression and your voice is doing emo shit that has nothing to do with context.

Thank you, however, for asking about the museum because it got Steve teasing and winding Danny up again, I love that. Also, there is bite in Steve's teasing, just wow, so fucking jealous.

And I hate the fact that there was no camera shot of Steve's face when he was being all sarcastic.

Charlie! More Kono plot! More actual episode plot! The McGuffin is about to get McGuffed!

Lori, you are a terrible cop. Really. And cue Chekov's Jewellery, that ring was bound to return and boy did it.

Peter Fonda... I kind of hoped he would be more than a cameo but what can you do.

Counterfeit coins are counterfeit, hence them being the McGuffin and not the actual plot.

It's actually quite amazing how much the so-called plot are vehicles for character development and interaction. It's rare in cop shows, or at least, it seems rare to me - I'm not really a cop chow person (other than the Closer and I've been rec'd Rizolli and Isles, which is supposed to be the Sapphic equivalent of H50).

Chin, you lovely liar.

And oh, a history of Hawaii lesson! I love those. I'm not American, but I love second world war history, so all this is seriously fascinating, because I know next to nothing about the Pacific theatre other than the attack on Pearl Harbour, Midway, Iwo Jima and the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

And another potential suspect and lying through technology!

And Danny not knowing internet savvy. At all. And yay Danny you're clever :P

Danny's face at "partner". Just beautiful.

Chin confronting Kono is great drama. So many parallels to explore! Kono is badass, I love her. And ew Frank, you are as skeevy as Fryar.

(As an aside, I find all the Baldwins obnoxious actors, I dunno how they all managed to have successful careers.)

Crime scene crap, but yay gloves. I love the black gloves. Just saying.

Oh, Steve, I'm so objectifying you right now. I love it when the show does this. Evening the playing field a bit. But sexual objectification, as a rule, is not good. Do it only to those who consented to it people!

And Joe, oh, Joe, you lying liar who lies. Honestly.

Human skull, saw it coming, because really now.

Yay, Max and Danny making body part puns. Teehee. Also, Max you adorable fanboy you. *squishes*

They really should have rookies and interns doing this research for them, because man, that takes a long time to through archives like that.

And the actual plot thickens. The ambiguous titles trend continue. It's interesting, using "Treasure" to denote several layers of meaning.

Lori, you continue to be horribly unprofessional.

And the actual plot continues to be horribly predictable, but interesting! Several twists and discoveries along the way. It's lovely.

And... Chekov's Jewellery comes to play!

Action sequences are another reason to watch this show, they're choreographed so fucking well and Steve soars through the air. It's awesome.

Oh, police brutality, you'll never leave us, huh?

The schmultz is thick in this one. I like that we're getting closure with Catherine, I also like that Steve is genuinely upset about her leaving. They really were friends, beyond the mutual instrumentalist exploitation and fucking :)

And Danny, oh Danny, kisses over Grace's monkey face, it's so sweet. Especially when he's rebounding over that gorgeous Rachel doppelgänger museum director.

Chin and Kono's story is really lovely to watch and as I said, I'm really glad to see Chin be a bridge over the two arcs. The pain on Kono's face when confronted with Chin's unconditional love was beautiful, I was actually clutching my chest at some point.

I really hate the way the death of soldiers is fetishised in the television shows. I hate the long shots, the slow mo and just, the whole staging of it. I don't think it respects them as people who gave their life to protect their country and it creates an aura of grandeur for an ideology I find inherently destructive.

Not to mention, I hate the uniforms. I know, shock, I hate beige uniforms, if only because as a former member of the Israeli Air Force I wore that fucking beige day in and day out for two fucking years and just seeing it gives me allergic reactions.

But kudos on Steve confronting Joe. Time for some conflict!

To conclude... Hells Yes! I'm not saying it made up for horribleness of episode 2.02 or the disaster of portrayal and imagery that was 2.03, but it's a fucking start! Totally looking forward to next week.

V and Justice

V: Ah, I was forgetting that we are not properly introduced. I do not have a name. You can call me V. Madam Justice...this is V. V... this is Madam Justice. hello, Madam Justice.

Justice: Good evening, V.

V: There. Now we know each other. Actually, I've been a fan of yours for quite some time. Oh, I know what you're thinking...

Justice: The poor boy has a crush on me...an adolescent fatuation.

V: I beg your pardon, Madam. It isn't like that at all. I've long admired you...albeit only from a distance. I used to stare at you from the streets below when I was a child. I'd say to my father, "Who is that lady?" And he'd say "That's Madam Justice." And I'd say "Isn't she pretty."

V: Please don't think it was merely physical. I know you're not that sort of girl. No, I loved you as a person. As an ideal.

Justice: What? V! For shame! You have betrayed me for some harlot, some vain and pouting hussy with painted lips and a knowing smile!

V: I, Madam? I beg to differ! It was your infidelity that drove me to her arms!

V: Ah-ha! That surprised you, didn't it? You thought I didn't know about your little fling. But I do. I know everything! Frankly, I wasn't surprised when I found out. You always did have an eye for a man in uniform.

Justice: Uniform? Why I'm sure I don't know what you're talking about. It was always you, V. You were the only one...

V: Liar! Slut! Whore! Deny that you let him have his way with you, him with his armbands and jackboots!

V: Well? Cat got your tongue? I though as much.

V: Very well. So you stand revealed at last. you are no longer my justice. You are his justice now. You have bedded another.

Justice: Sob! Choke! Wh-who is she, V? What is her name?

V: Her name is Anarchy. And she has taught me more as a mistress than you ever did! She has taught me that justice is meaningless without freedom. She is honest. She makes no promises and breaks none. Unlike you, Jezebel. I used to wonder why you could never look me in the eye. Now I know. So good bye, dear lady. I would be saddened by our parting even now, save that you are no longer the woman I once loved.

*KABOOM!*
