End of Year Meme v.09
Dec. 24th, 2009 11:22 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
I don't remember why, but last year I didn't do the "classic" end of year meme, possibly because I was concentrating on the war and the fact that my girlfriend was in the line of fire.
Fun times.
Looking back on this year, it wasn't easy for me. I think I was a little bit destroyed by everything going on around me and coming to its arbitrary end there was one whammy after another.
Maybe writing it down like this will enable me to process it better - there is, after all, only a week left to the new decade. And despite the fact that our human teen years could be handled by better by society and culture as a whole, perhaps we need this change, hearkening a new decade in the brand new age.
And with that waxed poetics out of the way...
The Meme:
What did you do in 2009 that you'd never done before?
I was in my first long term relationship.
I went to a huuuuge outdoor concert with my father.
Did you keep your new year's resolutions and will you make more next year?
I don't do that.
Did anyone close to you give birth?
That's complicated.
Did anyone close to you die?
That's not very complicated.
What was your biggest failure this year?
My studies. I should have worked harder.
Did you suffer illness or injury?
Not personally, no. By proxy, far too much.
What was the best thing you bought?
Definitely my new Oxford shoes and the Leonard Cohen concert (+ his discography!).
Whose behavior merited celebration?
Can't think of anyone really. People in general shouldn't be celebrated for behaving decently I think.
Whose behavior made you appalled and/or depressed?
I will skip this one, as I have a few people in mind, but this is not the forum in which to discuss their behavior.
Which was truly appalling, hurtful and I'm seriously not ready to fogive them yet, even though I get along with them and love them dearly still.
God only knows why sometimes.
What did you spend most of your spare cash on?
The aforementioned shoes, concert and albums.
What song will always remind you of 2009?
"So Long, Marianne" by Leonard Cohen.
Happier or sadder?
It was a big yo-yo of these emotions.
Thinner or fatter?
Definitely thinner.
What do you wish you'd done more of?
Spent more time with [Southern!Girl], saw more of my friends, studied harder. You know the usual.
What do you wish you'd done less of?
I wish I could have been less angry. Sometimes I feel far too consumed by it to use it proactively. Despite the comfort I get from the surge of the emotion, it can sometimes leave me feeling burnt out.
How will you be spending Christmas?
Did you fall in love in 2009?
Yes and then I managed to get out of it and continue loving properly :)
How many one-night-stands?
None, thanks.
What was your favorite TV series?
I can honestly say that if it weren't for Doctor Who and Torchwood my year would have been so much more miserable.
Thank you stories.
Thank you fandom.
Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Hating takes too much energy out of me. I'd much rather be momentarily pissed.
What was the last book you read?
Emma by Jane Austen.
What was your greatest musical discovery?
I never remember from one year to the next... but possibly fandom related music like Blue Gillespie and Chameleon Circuit.
F-list what did I go on about this year other than Mister Cohen?
What did you want and get?
There was nothing I didn't want that I didn't get.
What did you want and not get?
Well, some unconditional love would have been nice. But alas, that bubble burst.
What was your favorite film this year?
Inglorius Basterds
The violence suited me at the time.
What made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
My girlfriend, sex, my teevee shows, porn.
All is related to each other of course.
How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2009?
Androgynous-femme...? Maybe?
What kept you sane?
See what I write under what made it more satisfying.
What celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Dear lord.
It's not really them it's who they portray.
Who do you miss?
I miss [Southern!Girl] but there is no pining as such. I miss being able to talk to her whenever and spending time with her. But moving on and being able to be friends is a good thing as well.
Who was the best new person you met this year?
Were there any new people?
On line a bunch of you made things way better.
IRL... things get mashed up.

I think I'll quote what is possibly the manifesto I try to follow for living my life -
"...My mother said I broke her heart. But it was my integrity that was important. Is that so selfish? It sells for so little, but it's all we have left in this place.
It is the very last inch of us.
But in that inch we are free."
