Save Darfur!
May. 1st, 2007 12:08 amOn Sunday the 29th of April I went to a demonstration against the appalling treatment refugees from Darfur a region of Sudan, are receiving from the Israeli government.
These refugees are escaping from the Janjaweed, who are raping, murdering and massacring them with the intent of exterminating them, using territorial and religious objectives.
Instead of asylum, over 300 people have been put in a detention center in Israel. There is no place for them here, they are not entitled to food, work or health care, except as prisoners of the state.
These are survivors of genocide.
Genocide is not something that happened more than half a century ago.
Genocide is not something that is happening half a continent away.
It is happening here and now and it is happening under our nose.
And the world is ignoring it, just like it ignored the Armenian slaughter, the Nazi Holocaust, the Cambodian killing fields, Kosovo and Sarajevo, Rwanda...
The green ribbon is the Save Darfur! Campaign ribbon and it will be going up on my profile in order to keep traffic going to the campaign website.
Go there, and spread this over your LJ and blogs.
This is important, human lives are at stake... this is our reality and our humanity.
Think of the future. Don't stand aside and say you didn't know.

Thanks to Mummy and Robbie for helping me write this very important post.
