The only reason I'm writing this now, is because I got home last night at around one AM and didn't want to go to sleep at around two.
So I'll writing about the excitement now.
I got to the Cinematueque at around half past one, since I managed to leave work early (today as well) and met up with
morin who is staffing the Con and to whom owe a huge amount of favours which I hope I can repay one day.
Thank you
morin, for everything you've done for me the past few months, to do with iCon and not.
I saw a movie I really didn't enjoy, with the excessive violence and unnecessary sex scene, so I left the viewing hall as soon as the credits roll, I really didn't want to hear the director talk about what a good movie it was, when I felt queasy after it.
I went to buy tickets for the rest of the week, browsed the booths (didn't have the comic books I wanted *pout*).
morin introduced to too many people, some of whom have LJ's, but I really don't remember who right now and we went to have ice cream and caught up on what we were going to see and how busy she was, I told her to stop apologizing for being busy.
I saw they had a blood donation unit on location, so I decided to do my good deed for the day and went to donate - a little note, my blood pressure is the lowest is the lowest it's ever been and my hemo count at it's highest, who knew I was actually doing good to my body - and while I was waiting to be pocked,
morin opened the door to the van and said:
"Neil Gaiman just passed, said hello, shook our hands and told us to have fun"
I almost died.
"Why didn't you call me!?" I demanded.
"I thought you were donating!"
"Okay"
I pouted and went back inside, utterly disappointed.
A few minutes later the door opened again.
"Come quick!" she said "He's coming from the other direction!"
I'm damn lucky my head didn't bash the pavement.
And I met Neil Gaiman.
Yes I did, I did indeed.
morin ushered him gently to me and said "This is Melody, she's a big fan of yours"
My face is splitting in half as I say (like a stupid idiot, as he smiles at me) "I'm a big fan of yours" and I shake his hand.
He was very nice and asked if I'll be going to any of his other lectures.
I said "Of course".
He said "Well, see you there"
There was a small (huge) amount of bouncing and *squee* and
morin said "You know he saw you do that"
I wanted to kill myself.
I donated blood (with my blood pressure much higher now than when they had actually measured it) and then went to the opening ceremony where Yours Truly sat directly, and I mean one seat to the right of Mr. Gaiman and I was awesome, because I turned to him and said:
"Hello, you probably remember me from outside, all the bouncing and squealing"
He replied smiling "Sure, it's amazing for how long you actually went on with that"
Mortification set in "Oh, GD-"
Him: "No, it's okay, it's fun seeing people so excited, but it was quite extraordinary, because the farther I went, I could still hear you".
A little pause and I say "May I be forward with you?"
He says "Sure"
"Do you have a pen?"
He smiled and whipped out a red marker, I took out "Season of Mists" and was the first civilian (non Con staff) to get his signature.
I so totally rock.
So I basked in his presence, heard him speak at the opening and a lecture he gave after that.
I was then dragged out the stage exit with him and
morin and went on to talk with him.
He's a lot less aloof that I thought he would be, he was very tolerant and seemed to take me seriously. I told him that thanks to him I was exposed to whole new medium, one that I read quite extensively and blog about (comic books) and he looked really pleased with that, because he was saying how there weren't enough girls who read comics.
morin spoke up and told him how I had been linked to When Fangirls Attack and we spoke about blogging, until it was time for him to go.
I shook his hand again and he said he hoped to see me tomorrow (which is today).
Small *squee*.
And that's how I met the Dream King.
And now a few pictures:
