And so?

A quick News update announces that the strike is over, in the Hebrew addition they're saying Uni will commence on Sunday, with the new curriculum the University boards have written up and a brand new labour dispute with the Junior Lecturers!

What in fucking hell does that mean!? The semester finished yesterday! Many people studies a huge portion of their degree (even if I did) and test season is upon us!

Are we really going to be studying for the first Semester on the Semester break when we should have time to study for the exams we have, or are we going to start the Second the semester as the First and roll into the summer and then begin next year with no break in between?

I am sick, sick, sick of the uncertainty!

Dude! It's Effing Cold!

Though not as much as it was yesterday.
There is definitely a thaw in the air.

Wish I could say the same for the University talks. Still no resolution and if nothing happens on Friday the Uni gates are closing on Sunday until the second Semester.

Motherfuck.

I did get a chance to vent about it today; some guy with a camera stuck a microphone into my face and asked me what I thought about the strike.
I told him.
In many, many words.
It felt good.

Pity I didn't notice what network he was from, hopefully my sound-bite will actually convey my frustration with the process and not lay the blame solely on the Ministry of Finance or the Lecturers, since I feel both sides have been absolutely screwy!

Going back to bed

The Lecturers are still striking with after the labor courts denied injunctions instructing them to go back to work.

So no court order, but still no Uni.

*sigh*

Times Like These

It's during times like these that I feel like I should be a pot smoker.
Because then I'd have stuff to fill the day with and remain entertained by watching my hand move.

Day 80 of the Uni Senior Lecturer Strike.

80 days of no higher learning for Mel.

I cannot begin to tell you how frustrating this is.
And it's not like I blame the lecturers for their legal and worthy cause, so they have really bad PR, big deal!
The effing Ministry of Finance is so near-sighted it makes me want to go to the Knesset Guy Fawkes style!
I won't claim to be the greatest mind of my generation, but I know a few people who are and their futures and careers are being locked by the idea that Privitisation and a near-sighted Neo-Liberal financial system for the Public Educational institution will make better consumers of us all.

Fuck that shit!

I mean when the International Airport Workers threatened to strike, it took the Effing Gov less than 24 hours to figure out a solution, temporary though it may, for the workers, because Fuck Forbid that the Duty Free close down and lower the market's revenue!

Damn it!
I'm really, really mad about this whole thing!

And I had a really fun day with [livejournal.com profile] morin who drove with me to Rehovot, so that I could have company while I delivered a package for Daddy to the Weissman Institute.
That was fun.
And I got a hair cut.
I look like Mia Farrow ;D

A few quick hitters

- Spent Friday morning at a bazaar and bought clothes and the earnings went to the sexual assault treatment centers. Yay, shopping for a good cause!

- Spent Friday to now at Tami (still at her place until we have to go to Uni at around noon) due to her parents being away and it's no fun being home alone, I know this all too well.

- Uni's still striking.

- Aaarg!

Academia Sucks Ass!

Fuck.
לעזאזל.
חרא.

Dude! WTF!!

The Ministry of Education... sucks.
The Lecturers... sucks.
The Students (as in me and mine)... are fed up!

And I expect my tuition to be reimbursed if this year really is going to be canceled.

"We Will Not Be Moved"... and a meme

Those of you who have been paying attention know that the Senior Lecturers of our Universities have been on strike (we are now in week six of the strike). In an act of raising awareness to the issues for which the strike is happening (legitimate, though aggravating it may be), I will be joining my fellow students, junior and senior lecturers in locking the University gates for the day and continue with a rally later this week and next.

I hate this strike.
Really I do.

And while I know this little stand will do little to move things along, it's too important to not make a stand for the crumbling education system (both Higher and Lower) in this farkukt country!

With my luck it will probably rain.
But it'll be worth it and after all, sit-ins are fun!

And a meme )

(no subject)

Still only one class today.
So it's going to be a late day.

On the other hand, I think I'll go demonstrate with the cafe workers and waiters who decided to unionise after their employee rights had been infringed.

Good times and solidarity as they say *grin*.

I am Student! Watch me extrapolate?

First week of Uni is over.
It was also the beginning of the Senior Lecturer's Strike, which I agree with in principle, but aaargh, it's my first week of my first year, worst timing ever... for me!

Moving on from my self-centered University Woes.

I had two classes this week, both in Gender Studies, which were fun, I have some reading to do, which is what the weekend is for obviously. So far there's not much reading seeing as there aren't actually any classes, but I'll take advantage of the huge amounts of time I have and continue to procrastinate as I do best.

Hopefully the strike won't last more than this week, though truth be told, I'm not that hopeful since the demands will most likely not be met and the government and ministry of education will, as per usual, continue to do nothing that will actually benefit this country in the long run.

Tomorrow is Friday, with a slight chance of laziness and seeing friends I hadn't seen in two weeks and perhaps cinema and coffee.
Not everything is right with the world, but at least my little micro-cosmos is doing well.

In addition, the genocide in Darfur must be stopped.

University Woes

Was supposed to start Uni today, but the threated strike (senior lecturers demanding more pay and terms for teaching, quite understandable) is happening.
*sigh*
I did not want to start my first year in such a negative way, I may still have a class late in the after noon, but my hopeful long hours of studying today seem to have been axed.

Blah.

Will update on my woes on the matter.
