A quick one before bed
If I read one more Inception fic in which the author gives Eames the first name "Jack" I may be forced to say something. And a vein in my head may burst.
Depends.
Dudes! If your first name is "Jack", you do not go by your last name.
Seriously, it's that simple!
Petty reader is petty.
And there really is hardly any love for Ariadne... *sigh*

I have no investment in the fandom, but why is this?

Supposing that Eames has first name, it's a name he doesn't appreciate or one that he feels doesn't really suit him.
The way I see the character is that he's truly performative and is very deliberate about his mannerisms, clothes and appearance, down to the scruff and the gaudy clothing. A man names Jack is not like that.

Ariadne was a bit too wholesome in the film for my tastes, but she has so much potential and is a truly kick ass character.

Not sure I agree, but "Jack" really doesn't suit him.

I know Tom Hardy is a Londoner, but I've seen him in other things in which he did not sound upper crust what-so-ever.
I'm inclined to believe that Eames' accent is an affectation and not the one he grew up with.
Even so, if you know off hand, whereabouts would he aqauire an accent like that?

I don't know about Tom Hardy, but Eames' accent isn't regional - it's pure RP (Received Pronunciation). There's three ways (other than working hard to deliberately acquire it) you can get that accent in this century: by growing up among the English aristocracy; at a really expensive public school; or at Oxford or Cambridge university. Eames doesn't come across as an aristo so my money would be on Oxbridge. Or on drama school (I do mean that - Eames is essentially an actor by profession).

I just read somewhere that Nolan said that Eames is the son of old money and I'm choosing to ignore that, because damn that man may be slumming but he is no AristoCat.
Thank you for the clarification on the accent, I was racking my brains trying to figure out where Eames was from!
