But seriously, I've never seen them in Philly yet ... glad to know their popularity has reached a wider audience. They're too awesome for us NJ/NY folk to hoard for ourselves.

Of, for sure. I would actually assume that they've been in Philly for just as long as they've been everywhere else. The Jews, they are everywhere, and occasionally they have bakeries/delis, etc. Famous 4th St. Delicatessen has been around for a good 80 years at this point.

I wanted to throat-check the dumbasses who during the last American election did in fact use the phrase, cuz you know they weren't talking about pastry.

Are black-and-whites Jewish? I really have no idea, but I wouldn't be surprised. I think all the yummy stuff in New York is traced back to them. For reference: bagels. OMG. You can't get a good bagel once you leave the tri-state region.

Excuse me while I wax poetic about food. Gastronomy makes me so happy.

And I associate black and whites with Jews, but maybe it's just my upbringing. It could just be a German thing, though I didn't see any in the bakeries when I lived in Berlin. And I was in the bakeries almost every day for brochen. Hrm!
