Do you know how much of a sissy I am?

Over the weekend I watched Superman Returns for the first time.
I was flipping through the channels and saw it was coming on and decided to see if it lived down to my expectations.

First of all, my low expectations made watching it highly, highly enjoyable! I really liked the movie, it's a really good follow up to the second and canon-shafts Superman 3 & 4, which I think we can all agree were, um, not up to par.

Anyway the reason I'm a sissy: You know the part where Superman picks up the crystal continent, hurls it into space and then falls to the Earth?
I cried.
Like the big baby I am.
I also cried when he sat beside Jason in the night and spoke to him like Jor-El did in the first movie.
*wibble*

And what was up with Lois?!?! Dude, you were okay, but where was the spunk?! The attitude?! The whole deal!?
Once again Lois falls victim to the writing of men who really don't know how to write women *sigh*.

The guy who played Clark/Superman had mighty big boots to fill and he did so very well.
Petty he overshadowed the whole movie, I mean other than Clark/Superman, everyone else was average or lower.

I actually thought Kevin Spacey was fantastic as Lex Luthor. He brought out some great subtext between Lex and Superman.

Oh for sure he was better than Gene Hackman and there was a tonne of subtext.
Brandon Routh did play Clark a little more effeminate than Christopher Reeves and Superman really was alien.

It wasn't a bad movie all in all.

But yeah, subtext.

That's why I was always a bigger Batman fan. Besides the fact that the Bat's a bigger badass, the women in that universe were typically just as badass. Lois seems to always get herself in trouble and need rescuing no matter which incarnation she's in.

Big Bat-fan in the House!

Oh, Batman/Bruce is my absolute fave :).

True, it would seem that the Ladies of Gotham have a better grip of things than Lois, though at her core Lois is a cracking reporter and really professional.
I think she suffers from the paradox of being a strong character with bad writers.

My Het OTP in DC will always be Selina/Bruce, though in Slash I think Clark/Bruce is awesome, just because I love the way those two interact, I think they're really good friends, no matter what Effing Frank Miller decided when he "revived" Batman.

Long and nerdy. Apologies.

I cried at that point, too! It was a beautifully shot movie indeed, and I quite liked Lois because she never let go of her story about the blackout, though I thought the actress was a bit bland for someone as whipcrack smart as Lois. Kevin Spacey was fantastic, and I also liked that Richard White wasn't made out as a failure because he was Clark's competition, or because he's not Jason's biological dad. He was extremely cool, and their family unit was highly functional. I don't see how the sequel can avoid "Jason and his poly family", but, then again, I'd like to see Clark/Lois/Richard on screen!

All you say is true, everyone else was good, but I was just so overwhelmed by how good Superman/Clark was!
It was a petty he overshadowed everyone else (imo), but cast was really, well, haha, well cast!

That kid was so cute!

Ooooh, poly-family *claps happily*. Even though my OT3 is normally Clark/Lois/Bruce.

Maybe I had my slash goggles on, but I couldn't help but read Clark as gay!

Also, Superman was really a whole lot more alien than in the other movies, or even comics! Which really suit with the story line of traveling in space for five years and such.
