I'm an evolutionary biologist. Seriously, actual scientists are not this functionalist about sex, or so ultra-selectionist. That's just the poor version of evolution that's made it into general consciousness. The evolutionary theory studied by scientists is well past the 'revolution' you describe and trying to tackle the one after that - but this stuff is so messy and complicated I don't know what kind of soundbites popular media might take away from it.
