Sensless Violence

Pakistan's Opposition Leader Benazir Bhutto has been assassinated after she spoke at a political rally in Rawalpindi.
She was shot and subsequently a bomb exploded wounding many of those attending the rally.

What a tragedy.

BBC report and another BBC report.

Not to mention the 180 degree shift in Pakistani politics now, especially seeing as the Parliamentary elections are/were to be held on the 8th of January.

18:37 - Edited to Add: a quick time line of Benazir Bhutto's life.

Fabulous, the spectre of civil war in a country with notoriously lax command and control over their nuclear weapons. :(

Yikes... I fear for anyone living in Pakistan over the next few weeks. And what a terrible end to a fascinating life.

That's awful. And even if you're hellbent on killing a leader you hate, why do you have to murder civilians? I don't get people.

Terrible. Terrible. No other words/thoughts describe it.

Karachi is a shithole of a city, and yet one of the biggest. Some of the people I know from the city told me of the horrors of the city, that people would go around on motorcycles (like here) and kill doctors of different sects. Doctors.

What a tragedy. And what bravery of Bhotto. She knew her life was in danger, and yet continued to press for democracy to return.
